Ghosts and Ghouls Watch

Ghouls and Ghosts Watch: Last year Jennifer and I attended a Murder Mystery party for Halloween, so we don't know what kind of "turnout" we'll get here, but we're excited to see trick-or-treaters tonight! I wonder if anyone will show up.

Update: One witch. I gave her two candy bars. In hindsight maybe I should have given her 200.

Alcoholic Wife Watch

One of our readers apparently needs to know how to convince your wife she needs to go to AA. Yikes! My suggestion? Next time she gets drunk, bring out the camcorder. That's how I got my old roommate to stop snorting festive spices.

Miscellanea 3

Awful Sci-Fi Watch: This Saturday I sat down and watched a full episode of Enterprise. UPN benefited from the fact that there was absolutely nothing else on, and I was a captive audience. I was either going to lie on the couch or lie in bed. There's no TV in the bedroom, and I was far too sick for any other bedroom activities.

Enterprise has never, ever been a good show. But you had to admit, it was a good looking show. Dumb as a brick writing, atrocious soap opera acting, but top quality special effects, set design, and cinematography.

Alas, no longer. The show got it's budget slashed in order to stay on UPN this season. Now the dumb writing and atrocious acting has been joined by high school production values and camera work worthy of cable access. And the writing is even dumber. Unable to think of anything to say, the characters simply pause for long periods of time... making sure the idiots in the audience have enough time to absorb what has been said. Problem is, anyone with an IQ over 90 will use the long silence to figure out what's going to happen next.

What a train wreck.

Family Values Department: We had family here Thursday night. This time it was Jennifer's aunt and uncle. So now we've had Jennifer's mom, her aunt, and her uncle drop this in the last month. They all live 650 miles away. The rest of my family hasn't traveled up to see us for almost a year, and they're a straight shot south on 405. We're so sad and lonely. It would be nice if they came up next weekend and took us out to Azteca.

December Lives: Yes, my wife actually posted something. I did not kill her and stuff her body in the furnace. She lives. Go read what she has to say on the right hand side of the page. Coming soon, a new layout that will make it easier to notice such things.

December's Volunteer Update!

My side of the site has just been collecting dust for the past couple of months since I started school. I've just been very busy and exhausted. Michael and I have caught some sort of cold or flu bug that's been with us for a couple weeks now.

My volunteer work has been going well, although I cross paths with a grumpy, bitter nurse a few weeks ago. I was polite as always to her, since she's the one with a problem, not me. My math teacher is the same way, though. She seems to enjoy belittling everyone she can in the hour we have with her each day. And if you have a question on a problem, don't even try to ask her. If you're lucky enough to get some explanation, it's likely to confuse you more. But I'm doing very well in the class, so I won't complain.

I really enjoy going to school. I miss Michael and not being with him all the time, but it feels great to go to class and get my career rolling.

Anyway, I didn't really have anything to say. But Michael said I better post or people were going to start thinking he killed me or something.

Violent Liberal Watch 4

From Sound Politics, a Seattle conservative placed a sign in his car window, only to have that window smashed in. Just to make sure they got the point across, they smashed in his windshield as well. Niiiiice.

Update: I was behind a Subaru that had it's windows smashed out for Pro-Bush signs as well. This is why I refuse to put this stuff on my own car. Sad.

Superman is Dead

Superman is dead. Wow.

Horrible.

Update: MSNBC reports Reeve slipped into a coma after a cardiac arrest.

Update 2: ABC News reports that Reeve was being treated for a common pressure wound that had become severely infected. They have a much longer report up already. They're either fast or prepared. Maybe both.

The Bush Bulge

Does Bush wear an earpiece, and did he wear one during the first debates?

That's the latest theory from the left, and they claim they have proof. I decided to investigate myself, but unsurprisingly, I found there was little to look into.

There are the pictures. Supposedly, Bush has a bulge on the back of his suit during the first debate. I am assuming these photos are not doctored. I did not notice a bulge during the debates, but then again I don't think the bulge in the photos is particularly noticeable either.

The bulge seems pretty inconclusive. Then there is a supposed audio feed of Bush being fed the answer to a question provided by David Gregory. The audio I heard was provided by the White House itself, and it is possible that the audio was altered. I did hear a second voice on the audio feed. It does sound similar to what Bush is saying, but not exact. It is very low, and very muffled, but from what I can tell, the audio in question is not someone feeding Bush his answers, but rather a translation of his words into French. That it appears BEFORE his answer should not cause concern. The event is likely delayed to make interpretation seem simultaneous.

The last piece of evidence is the most convincing, yet that isn't saying much. This video is supposedly of Bush being fed his own words through some sort of secret audio feed.

I remain unconvinced. The audio appears to be some sort of pre-echo, caused by either an intentional or unintentional delay of the live feed.

Furthermore, to accept this theory, you have to assume that Bush is either too stupid to come up with his own answers, or so smart he can listen to answers while simultaneously giving them... or both. You also have to accept that IF Bush was wearing a device during the debates, the man feeding him answers would have had to be even dumber than he was, because Bush was lousy last week.

But hey, if you want to be a conspiracy nut, I won't stop you.

10-11-04 Update: Bloggers continue to investigate the possibility that President Bush uses an audio prompter in his ear, and may have done so during the first (and possibly second) debate.

Included as further proof is this picture. It's of Bush in a pickup truck, with a visible bulge underneath his t-shirt. The bulge does look very much like the bulge underneath his suit during the first debate.

But does Bush really need a hidden prompter in his ear in order to drive a truck!? I mean, use common sense here people. Either it is just an optical illusion, or something else. Perhaps some sort of security technology. Perhaps Bush has an undisclosed health problem.

Some of these people have come to unrealistic conclusions, and they're grasping at anything that might fit with their preconcieved notions. This reminds me of those who desperately want to prove the existence of ETs and UFOs.

10-26-04 Update 2: I still haven't found convincing evidence. The people advancing the theory aren't even pretending to be objective anymore, calling the White House "liars." They keep coming up with pictures of the President, and I don't find any of them particularly convincing. Probably the problem is lack of familiarity. I doubt these people have ever actually WORN a suit. They don't always fit like you want them to.

Why Keep Dan?

I've been wondering what's keeping CBS from dumping Dan Rather. CBS isn't exactly burning up television sets with their great news ratings. With Brokaw retiring, now seems like the perfect time to shake things up and try to grab some viewers. This thought has bothered me for a little while now, but then I realized that while CBS might have come to the same conclusion, they don't really have any answers. Unlike both ABC and NBC, CBS doesn't really have any rising stars in their news division. Who replaces Dan Rather? The answer seems to be nobody.

If I were CBS I would try stealing somebody. A former Seattle favorite, CNN's Aaron Brown might be an interesting choice. MSNBC has quite a few stars they could try to lure away. Any of the cable anchors would jump at the chance to be seen by the masses, and head their own news division.
